The role of the melt pump in the extrusion system

In extrusion systems, the melt pump is primarily used for the conveying, pressurization, and metering of high-temperature, high-viscosity polymer melts, delivering a stable flow of melt to the die head. Its key functions can be summarized in three aspects:

1.Pressure Boosting and Stabilization. The melt pump applies stable extrusion force to the outlet material, increasing the melt pressure to meet process requirements while isolating inlet pressure fluctuations to achieve highly stable output pressure.

2. Suppressing Pressure Fluctuations. The outlet pressure of an extruder often exhibits pulsed fluctuations. By continuously meshing gears to smoothly挤压 the material, a melt pump effectively eliminates such fluctuations, thereby improving product dimensional uniformity and forming precision.

3.Energy Consumption Reduction and Production Capacity Increase: After the melt pump takes over the pressurization task, the internal pressure inside the extruder decreases significantly. This reduces melt shear heat and lowers the temperature rise, thereby decreasing energy consumption while improving the overall system output and stability.
